I provide help with contracts, people issues, policies, and complaints – exactly when you need it.
Think of it as having a friendly on-call lawyer who knows your business, without hiring a full-time counsel or paying big firm fees. I won’t over-lawyer or bury you in jargon; you get pragmatic advice that saves time and money, without adding to your headcount.
I’m a good fit for: founders, COOs, HR leads, and growing teams that don’t have a full legal department. Send me your issue and I’ll quickly confirm if it’s in my lane. If it is, I’ll handle it; if it isn’t, I’ll point you to someone who can help. My goal is to fix your problem or signpost you to a solution as efficiently as possible.
What I can help with:
I can assist with a wide range of business matters. Some examples are:
Employment & HR:
Drafting, reviewing and updating employment and freelancer contracts, staff handbooks, and policies. Need to let someone go? I provide pragmatic HR advice so you can exit employees fairly and lawfully. From onboarding letters to settlement agreements, I help ensure your people issues are handled with minimal risk.
Terms of business & websites:
Writing and refining your customer-facing terms and conditions (T&Cs) and website policies. This includes website terms of use, cookie notices, privacy policies, and internal complaints procedures. The focus is on documents that protect your business but are still readable for your customers.
Data protection (GDPR compliance):
Helping you navigate UK GDPR and privacy laws in plain English. I can run GDPR audits and data-mapping exercises to see what personal data you hold and how it flows. Then I’ll draft or refresh your Privacy Notice so that normal humans can actually understand it (following the ICO’s guidance to keep it clear and transparent).
Brand & marketing (ASA complaints):
Dealing with the Advertising Standards Authority (ASA) when you have advertising content complaints – whether defending your company against a complaint or filing a complaint about a competitor’s ad. I manage the process from the first letter through to the final response. I’ll set expectations upfront about timelines, since ASA investigations can be slow (complex cases can take six months or more to resolve). Throughout, I keep the process moving and help compile the evidence or arguments needed to put your best case forward.
Content takedowns (DMCA & online IP issues):
Getting unauthorised or harmful content taken down from online platforms via DMCA notices or “notice and takedown” letters.
Complaints & disputes:
Handling escalated customer or client complaints before they turn into full-blown claims. I draft strong but sensible letters before action to assert your rights, or I help you respond to legal threat letters and even draft replies to court claims if you’ve been sued. My aim is to resolve disputes or set the stage for a favorable outcome without needless escalation.
Companies House filings:
Setting up new companies, handling routine filings and other legal formalities.
Training:
I have a good amount of experience training graduate lawyers and supervising their work portfolios. I have also taught the LL.B and undertaken 10 months of teacher training. I would therefore be pleased to plan and deliver bespoke training for your paralegals, juniors, graduates and early career lawyers.
Other:
I carry out a very wide range of tasks for different businesses, so if the type of work you need help with is not listed here, get in touch.
How it works
1. Send me your issue. Whether it’s a contract draft, a sticky HR problem, a policy question, a training need or a complaint that landed on your desk, just reach out and describe the situation.
2. Quick scope check. I’ll respond promptly to let you know if the matter is within my expertise (and within the scope of what I’m allowed to do for you). If your issue involves something I can’t do, I will tell you upfront and where possible, suggest a trusted regulated firm or specialist for that part.
3. Fix or refer. If it’s within my scope, I’ll provide a quote and delivery timescale. If you’re happy, I’ll get to work.
Depending on the type of work you have in mind, I might offer an hourly rate, monthly retainer or fixed fee.
