Clear practical advice, without the jargon.
As a mum of four in a blended family, I know first-hand how important it is to protect those you love. That perspective shapes the way I practise law – family always comes first.
My name is Jennifer Wiss-Carline and I am a practising Solicitor fully regulated by the Solicitor’s Regulation Authority (SRA). I have also been a Chartered Legal Executive since 2006. I continue to be regulated by CILEX. I am also a Commissioner for Oaths (since 2006) and provide this service on a discretionary basis in my capacity as a Fellow of CILEx.
I specialise in Private Client and I can advise across a range of other related areas.
Many of my clients face sensitive situations such as estranged children or complicated family dynamics, and I provide clear, confidential guidance to help them plan with confidence.

Background

My expertise:
With extensive experience working both independently and within established law firms, I have a strong track record in managing complex private client matters, training junior lawyers, and writing clear and informative articles and guides in various legal areas, including inheritance tax, estate planning, care fees protection, deprivation of assets, and business-related legal considerations. I advise on:
- Wills: Helping married and unmarried couples, families, and business owners put plans in place that protect both loved ones and assets. This includes care fee protection, statutory wills, high-net-worth planning, and tailored Inheritance Tax advice.
- Lasting Powers of Attorney (LPAs): Preparing personal and business LPAs so the right people can step in if decisions need to be made on your behalf, ensuring continuity and peace of mind.
- Deputyship Orders: Guidance and applications for families when a loved one no longer has capacity to manage their own affairs.
- Contentious probate: Early, practical advice to help resolve probate disputes and, where possible, preserve family relationships.
- Related areas: Clear advice across family, property, contract, and commercial matters – important for those running businesses alongside personal planning.
Qualifications and recognition:

- LL.M (Masters in Law) with Distinction, University of Law
- LL.B (1st Class Honours)

My written work has appeared in respected publications such as the CILEx Journal, LexisNexis, the Law Gazette, and the Parliamentary Review.
Outside of work, I have four amazing children – three grown-up daughters and a ten-year-old. In my free time, I enjoy cycling and hiking, particularly exploring trails in Scotland and the Peak District.
